WINTER 2021 – BAY NATION SKILLS ACADEMY

The Academy is an opportunity for keen kids to get a range of Skills training opportunities from Starter Skills (Gr 2-4), to Rookie Skills (Gr 4-6), to Middle School Skills (Gr 6-8). Given that we are in Phase 2, these will be non competitive (no contact) skill development session. All sessions will ensure physical distancing and have COVID protocols in place. These sessions are every Sunday from 11-3:30 at St Margaret’s (South Gym).

U9-10 *Grade 2-4

Just starting or in your 1st year of hoops, maybe getting ready for Fall 2021 Night League – this session is for you. Learn techniques and footwork – how to shoot, dribble and pass. This session will be 11:00-12:30. Chris Marsh – Lead Instructor

U11-12 *Gr 4-6

This session will be for those kids that maybe have played a year or 2 of Night League and have some intro skills. More of an emphasis on combining skills, learning how to beat your man off the bounce or from triple threat. Also an emphasis on learning different ways to finish. This session will be 12:30-2:00. Middle School *Gr 6-8

You’ve played for 2-3 years, and are competing at Middle School, possible Club level. Start to work on some higher level footwork drills, how to use space, movement to score. This session is 2:00-3:30. Geoff Pippus – Lead Instructor

PLEASE NOTE: We are focused on developing youth basketball in the Oak Bay area – especially for Night League. We are not 100% exclusive, but our preference is to provide opportunities to Oak Bay area kids.

Due to COVID-19, and Night League/Club activities being cancelled – Bay Nation has decided to start it’s own Fall 2020 Hoops League. We are also pleased to announce FRESHCOAST Health Food Bar as our League sponsor!

FRESHCOAST FALL BALL 2020 !!!

This League will have THREE Divisions (Varsity, JV, Rookie) with FOUR teams in each division. We will be 100% in line with BC’s Return to Play guidelines, and strictly enforce all COVID-19 policies and procedures.

Rookie League will be Gr 4-6, play 4 on 4

JV and Varsity will be Gr 6-8.

Varsity will feature many of the best Gr 8’s and a few Gr 7’s in Victoria. This will be as close to Club Basketball as we can make it.

All games & practices will be at St Margaret’s School, with Sundays being game days. Each team will play two each Sunday (back to back) – 20 games in total. Practices will be once a week (15+ practices), including outdoor activities. Games will have a max capacity/cohort of 50 in the gym, so no spectators – but all games will be streamed online. Fee – $350

We are currently FULL, and have a wait list.

NIGHT LEAGUE – POSTPONED

Last year, Bay Nation had 16 teams playing in Victoria District Basketball League. It’s an awesome league, especially for kids just starting to play basketball. BN had seven U11, five U13 and four U15 teams. We had players ranging from 7 years old to 15. Of the seven U11, four of the teams were mostly Gr 3 – very cool. Night League is recreational basketball. Except in very unique circumstances, we will only start with Gr 3 boys.

Night League typically starts end of September and ends in March. Night League has 1 practice, one – 1 hr game a week. 15-20 games, 20+ practices. Not a massive time commitment for multi-sport kids.

FALL 2020 – BAY NATION SKILLS ACADEMY – POSTPONED

The Academy is an opportunity for keen kids to get additional Skills training or higher level competitive activity. It’s once a week for 90 mins, every Sunday AM.

U9-11 *Gr 3-5

Due to a massive demand at this age (& limited gym space) – this session will be for Bay Nation / Bay Nation Elite players only (with a major emphasis on Oak Bay catchment). Mostly individual skill development, with some small group competitive games (2 on 2, 3 on 3, 3 on 3 on 3). Max 25 kids

U12-13 *Gr 5-7

This session will be a hybrid of individual skills, small group and large group activities. Definitely more of an emphasis on competitive opportunities vs just individual skill development. This session is open to Bay Nation / Bay Nation Elite players. Max 25 kids

MIDDLE SCHOOL ELITE *Gr 7-8

Much like the massively popular spring 2020 sessions at St Margaret’s!!! This session is almost all competitive situations – from 1 on 1, and 2 on 2 to start – before transitioning to larger group competitive games. Lots of 3 on 3, 3 on 3 on 3, 4 on 4, 4 on 4 on 4, 5 on 5.

FALL 2020 – BAY NATION ELITE. **POSTPONED

This is CLUB Basketball, this is not recreational – like Night League.

Bay Nation Elite is for the keenest kids looking to compete vs the best in BC. Most of the games are in the Lower Mainland – typically played once a month on a Saturday **3 games. We also have local games vs Nanaimo teams. Most of our Bay Nation Elite teams are Top 5 in BC. Most teams will practice once a week. The Fall season runs from August-January. The Spring season runs from Feb-July.

June 21, 2019 a group of 12/13-year-old boys from our local Bay Nation Basketball club, hosted seven 12/13-year-old boys from Denmark, in an exciting international training partnership.
